The Akarana Marine Sports Charitable Trust is overseen by a group of volunteer trustees, and employed management team, all of whom are passionate about the purpose and vision of the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre.
Howard has been an active user of the landings since the late 70’s and has raced every summer on his various M Class yachts since ’93. He is passionate about sailing, youth development and ensuring this site is kept as an inclusive access point for all of Auckland to the ‘most beautiful harbour in the world’. As modern society develops, sites like this are increasingly important for the health and wellbeing for the entire community. This is one of two passion projects he is involved with, the other being the https://pinnacleprogramme.co.nz, which focusses on developing our youth to be leaders for tomorrow. Howard also has extensive business interests from farming to tech; however, he is renowned for bringing the Hyundai brand to prominence in NZ.
Graham jointly founded Marstel Terminals with his wife Anne in 1987 and continues to be Managing Director. His experience in large scale project development finance and construction, is of significant benefit to Akarana Marine Sports Charitable Trust. Graham has been racing, administering and promoting water sports for the past 40+ years and is a keen golfer, sailor and general sports fan.
Sharon Aroha HawkeTrustee
Sharon is currently a Director on the Ngati Whatua Orakei Trustee Ltd and worked 23 years in the film and television industry. She works ‘24/7’ for her iwi, Ngati Whatua Orakei but in her spare time is a writer. Her dedication to the well-being of the sea, especially at our front door is a result of her 30 years involvement in waka ama (outrigger canoeing) and is club captain of Ocean Blue Sports Club. She is also Chair of Auckland Outrigger Canoe Association and has a ‘hands-on’ mentality to all tasks set before her.
With diverse business interests including co-founder of Artemis Capital and director of numerous companies, Anatole has experience across a range of industries including healthcare, energy, food and beverage and IT infrastructure. He is keenly interested in community projects and sport, particularly competitive sailing, fishing, diving, skiing and golf and is an active member of many clubs.
Brendan is Director of Campus Life at the University of Auckland and the University’s representative on the Trust. Brendan brings to the trust strong management skills and in particular expertise in balancing commercial requirements with broader community aspirations. Brendan is married with two young children but manages to find time to maintain a passion for Mountain Biking. He is by far the worst sailor on the Trust Board.
Founder and CEO of Framecad Group since 1987, operating internationally in 60 countries with branches across five continents and over 100 staff, Mark has extensive commercial business experience. A keen runner, paddler and sailor, Mark has been an active member of Royal Akarana Yacht Club since 2008.
An experienced business professional, Matthew is Chief Operating Officer of Framecad Group. With a background in strategic sales, marketing and general management he brings a broad range of skills to the Trust. The current Commodore of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club Matthew is an avid sailor, windsurfer, runner, and snow skier.
